Carole's family fun day

Carole Henson, a hairdresser from York, held a wonderful fundraising family fun day for us - and a generous pub landlady helped make the day a success, raising more than £2,000 to help cancer patients.

Carole used our minibus service to get to Leeds for radiotherapy treatment after finding that she had breast cancer in 2014.Through us, she also enjoyed a morale-boosting make-over and an exercise programme designed specifically for patients recovering from cancer.

“I always said once I felt better and had recovered that I wanted to say thank you, and here we are!” said Carole, who joined forces with Joanne Macpherson, landlady of the Dick Turpin pub in Woodthorpe, to hold the fantastic family fun day.

Raffle prizes included a hot-air balloon flight and a gyrocopter ride, while attractions included a bouncy castle, an animal zoo, music, drinks, a barbecue and ice-cream van, face painting, a tombola, a raffle and much more. Carole also sold her hand-made crafts and jewellery.

Joanne, who had previously held a highly successful charity weekend for good causes, had not planned to hold another event but found herself drawn to offer help when she heard about Carole’s plans. “I do have a busy life, but I get very excited about raising money for good causes!” she said.
