Father and Son show Yorkshire grit on Snowden

Haxby-based father and son fundraising team John and Marcus Simpson have spent a year undertaking ambitious challenges in the hope of raising £10,000 for York Against Cancer. The athletic pair got more than they bargained for when they tackled the three peaks as one of their challenges.

The duo had to abandon their first attempt of climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowden in April, due to the terrible weather conditions. They returned in September and summited the first two mountains. As they were about to reach the top of Snowden, John and Marcus came across an exhausted team of walkers and they had to alert Mountain Rescue to come and help the group down the mountain.

“One of the group was almost hyperthermic” said John. “We took them down and the Mountain Rescue team took care of the man who was really suffering. We’re going to class that challenge as being done now!”

John and Marcus’s second major challenge of cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End was less eventful and they managed to complete the ride in just ten days. The pair will also undertake the Coast to Coast bike ride and the Edinburgh Marathon as part of the challenge.

The Simpsons have so far raised over £1,300 towards their £10,000 goal. To support John and Marcus in their efforts visit their Just Giving or Facebook pages:
