Get involved

We’re proud of what we do, but we couldn’t do any of it without you. We know how lucky we are to enjoy the generous support of people in York, North and East Yorkshire.

Individuals and groups of fundraisers hold one-off challenges and regular events to make money for us, and businesses, schools and other groups also choose to support us at single or multiple events, some of them making us their charity of the year.

We can offer support to these efforts with branded merchandise, and we can muster volunteers to lend a hand at larger events. We are also grateful for the generosity of people who decide to give to us, either through one-off donations or regularly, some through the ‘Give As You Earn’ scheme, and we are always pleased to hear from people happy to have our collecting tins at places of work.

We never fail to be touched by the thoughtfulness of those who choose to remember us in their wills, through our legacies and bequests programme. We depend on practical help, too, and our friendly bunch of volunteers assist with everything from street collections to helping in our shops in Huntington and at York Hospital, and from marshalling at sporting events to packing the ‘York Scene’ Christmas cards we sell to customers each year.

We have an army of passionate cake bakers whose fabulous wares are in high demand at events that we hold around the year, and supporters at Dunnington help make cash for us with their charity shop selling second-hand goods upstairs in the village Reading Rooms.

When our minibus drivers can’t for any reason take a patient for radiotherapy at St James’s Hospital in Leeds, we have a band of volunteer drivers to step into the breach.
