Love Cheese Open Day raises £220

York based Love Cheese, a unique fine cheese and wine store and café on Gillygate, celebrated the opening of their new café and garden by hosting an Open Day in aid of York Against Cancer. The Open Day, which took place in July 2016, was an opportunity for customers to experience Love Cheese’s newly refurbished café and courtyard garden and 10% of the takings on the day were donated to York Against Cancer.

York Against Cancer is a cause that Love Cheese’s owner Harry Baines passionately believes in, after surviving two battles with cancer himself. Whilst Harry didn’t use York Against Cancer’s services, he met many people who did.

“I saw lots of people who benefitted from using your services including one of my relatives who used your respite apartment in Whitby. They had a much needed break and it’s great that you are able to provide such a well needed service to cancer patients and their families.”

Harry had met York Against Cancer’s general manager, Julie Russell, several times in business circles and this is where the idea to support the cause took shape. The reopening of Love Cheese raised £220 to support York Against Cancer’s work.
