Archbishop Sentamu helps us thank our volunteers

11th April 2017

We're holding a 30th birthday party to thank our volunteers – and the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, is warmly welcoming them to Bishopthorpe Palace.

We're holding the ticket only party in the gardens of Bishopthorpe Palace to mark three decades of funding cancer research, care and education.

Our general manager, Julie Russell, said more than 130 guests including volunteers past and present as well as current and former staff are expected to attend the afternoon tea party on 5 May.

“It’s a thank you from the charity for everything that the volunteers do for us,” said Julie. “The catering department at York College will be providing the tea, which we will be taking in a marquee at the Palace.

“We hope it will be a lovely opportunity for people to catch up with faces, some of which they may not have seen for many years.

“We are really grateful to the Archbishop for hosting us in our anniversary year.”

Archbishop Sentamu said: “York Against Cancer is an independent local charity which provides practical help and support for patients and their families.  It is a joy to welcome staff and volunteers as part of their 30th anniversary celebrations and to thank those who are working tirelessly to make a difference for others – keep up the good work!”
