Ralph’s our golfing superstar

Director of York Against Cancer, Ralph Magee, has been combining his twin passions of golf and charity work for two decades. For 21 years, he has been running a golf day at York Golf Club, and so far members there have helped raise an amazing £187,000 for York Against Cancer through the event.

The golf day struck gold in 2016, with more than £12,000 being raised for the charity and Ralph couldn’t been happier:

“With York Against Cancer, people can see what you do. They know about the minibus to St James’s Hospital, they know about the cancer care centre at York Hospital and hopefully we will soon have the mobile chemotherapy unit. There’s also the respite care home at Whitby, which is an ideal location for people and their families affected by cancer, to have a short break ‘’on the house’”.

Ralph, who has been involved with York Against Cancer since the 1980s, can’t single out what makes the annual golf day such a success:

“It's just a great team effort by sponsors, members of York Golf Club, the two professionals there, and those who donate auction and raffle prizes. I would like to say a big thank-you to all who helped make this possible.”
