Job Title: Assistant at The Leveson Centre
Responsible to: The Leveson Centre Manager and Assistant Manager
Reports to: The Leveson Centre Manager
Salary: £25,000 per annum with additional benefits, including a generous pension scheme and free health insurance (after 12 months)
Location: The Leveson Centre, York Community Stadium, Kathryn Avenue, Huntington, York, YO32 9AF
Hours of Work: Full time, 35 hours per week. 32 hours will be worked over 4 days, with a flexible day off per week. The 3 hour difference each week will be made up over the year by assisting with charity events outside the normal working week. The Centre is open 6 days a week, 9am-5pm Monday-Friday (until 6pm on Thursdays) and 10am-4pm Saturday. Flexible working is essential for this role to meet to needs of the Centre and its activities.
Essential: A full clean driving licence and access to a personal vehicle are essential due to the requirement to attend events

Are you passionate about supporting people affected by cancer? Are you a good communicator with the ability to engage a wide variety of people? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as Assistant at The Leveson Centre, York Against Cancer’s cancer support centre.
The Leveson Centre provides a friendly, welcoming, “home-from-home” environment for cancer patients, friends and family to access holistic support services or pop in for a cuppa and a chat, away from a clinical environment. Named after one of the founders of the Charity, Steve Leveson, the Centre offers a range of services to help cancer patients and their loved ones, including a weekly coffee morning, a well-being choir, complementary therapy sessions, Pilates and Yoga classes, benefits and welfare support from a Citizens Advice Advisor and support from a Chartered Clinical Psychologist for young people with family members going through cancer.
We are looking for someone to support the day-to-day running of the Centre. Working closely with the Managers of the Centre, you will ensure Centre services are delivered to a high standard, providing administrative support, supporting and signposting cancer patients who attend the Centre, and supporting and inspiring a team of Centre volunteers. You will also support the work of York Against Cancer, attending charity events and raising awareness of the Centre and its services.
As Assistant at The Leveson Centre, you will play a vital role in ensuring the Centre can continue to offer meaningful services to people whose lives are touched by cancer.
Main Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Centre Managers to manage the day-to-day operation of the Centre, ensuring high standards are always adhered to in all areas
- Provide excellent customer service to all service users
- Under the guidance of the Centre Managers, assist with the continuation of existing services and the implementation of new ones
- Assist with all procedures and policies for the operational needs of the Centre
- Assist with the administration of the Centre, including the facility booking system, managing emails and answering the phone and documenting and recording Centre activity
- Be responsible for the tidiness of the Centre, ensuring it is fit for purpose each day
- Act as Key holder for the Centre, opening and closing
- Inspire and support the team of Centre volunteers, ensuring they understand how their contribution is vital to achieving wider strategic aims
- Proactively promote the Centre and the work of York Against Cancer, assisting with Charity and fundraising events
- Support York Against Cancer’s Marketing Team with marketing and promotional material as required
- Become an integral member of a small team
What we are looking for…
We are seeking a motivated and confident individual with excellent communication and customer service skills. You will have a good knowledge of cancer services and clinical pathways in the region, and will be committed to supporting cancer patients and their loved ones. The ability to manage, prioritise, and meet deadlines is crucial, as is the ability to work cooperatively within a small team.

- Have a full-clean driving licence and use of your own car
