At York Against Cancer, we believe that nobody should have to face cancer alone. Whichever stage you’re at, you’ll find all the support you need right here in York.

Our care

We provide a range of support services for patients and their families in York, North and East Yorkshire.

The Leveson Centre

The Leveson Centre, which is located next to York Against Cancer’s gift shop at York Community Stadium, provides a friendly, welcoming, “home-from-home” environment for cancer patients, friends and family to access holistic support services or pop in for a cuppa and a chat, away from a clinical environment.

Minibus Service

Travel should be the least of your worries when undergoing cancer treatment. Our free minibus service to St James’s Hospital, Leeds for radiotherapy appointments aims to take all of this worry away and make the journey to the hospital a pleasant one. Our friendly drivers will take you there from door to door.

Respite Breaks

We understand how cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery can be a very difficult process for both patients and their loved ones. We’re here to help with a break away from it all with our two respite properties in Filey and Yapham for cancer patients and their loved ones to stay in, free of charge.

Mobile Chemotherapy Unit

We know how travelling to receive cancer treatment can be time consuming and add unwanted stress to an already unwelcome situation. The Mobile Chemotherapy Unit helps those living on the outskirts of York and Scarborough to cut down on travel time and provide them with quick, effective treatment accompanied by tea and coffee from a friendly NHS team.

Exercise Classes

We offer 5 free exercise classes for those living with and beyond cancer. Exercise classes are tailored to fit everyone’s unique needs, ensuring all exercise is undertaken safely. If exercise classes aren’t for you, we also offer Nordic Walking and Total Body Walking courses, which have been shown to reduce cancer fatigue, reduce the risk of lymphoedema and more.

Support Groups

At York Against Cancer, we regularly partner with other organisations who can help those living with cancer. We do our best to keep an up-to-date list of local cancer support groups across Yorkshire to make sure you always have somewhere to go. Whatever stage of treatment you are at, support groups can be a lifeline.
