The Leveson Centre
The Leveson Centre, which is located next to York Against Cancer’s gift shop at York Community Stadium, provides a friendly, welcoming, “home-from-home” environment for cancer patients, friends and family to access holistic support services or pop in for a cuppa and a chat, away from a clinical environment.
Named after one of the founders of the Charity, Steve Leveson, the Centre was brought to life by generous donations and offers a range of support services for individuals and groups including:
- A weekly coffee morning
- Benefits and welfare support from a Citizen’s Advice Advisor
- Adolescent Psychological Support
- Complementary therapy sessions
- Pilates and Yoga classes
- Rhythm of Life Wellbeing Choir
- Arts and crafts workshops
- Look Good Feel Better workshops
- Help Overcoming Problems Effectively (HOPE) course
Fully funded and managed by York Against Cancer, The Leveson Centre opened in February of 2023 and is open Monday – Saturday.
“The Leveson Centre has been a god send. It’s helping with my treatment, but it’s not a hospital. When you’re in a hospital, immediately it’s clinical; it’s sterile. Here, it’s just so relaxing and there’s so much on offer. To anyone thinking of coming to The Leveson Centre, I would encourage them to come. It’s not clinical, but it can help regardless of whatever type of cancer you’ve got. There’s all sorts of exercise classes, therapies and everything that can help, and the staff are really friendly.”
