Our Exercise Classes

15 Jan 2024

At York Against Cancer, we’re proud to offer cancer patients living in and around York 5 free exercise classes.

As the New Year starts, it’s on many of our lists to ‘get fit’ and take up a bit of regular exercise. For cancer patients, this often isn’t as simple as signing up for the gym or taking up running.

Going through cancer treatment and recovery can change how your body works and impact the type of exercise you are comfortable with. Our funded classes are taught by a specialist who works to tailor each session to the individual. Through this, we hope to help patients reduce anxiety, lessen fatigue and improve their general wellbeing in a safe and encouraging environment.

As an alternative to general exercise classes, patients may choose to take part in a four week Learn to Nordic Walk course, which can help to reduce the risk of developing Lymphoedema along with improve muscle recovery and rehabilitation following treatment or surgery.

After applying for our 5 free sessions, there will usually be a wait of up to 10 days before hearing back from the course leader.
