At York Against Cancer, we believe that cancer awareness is the first step towards cancer prevention. We do our best to raise awareness of the disease through everything that we do.
Working with primary schools
Since 2009, we have provided thousands of free sunhats to primary school children in and around York to protect against skin cancer and raise awareness of its risks.
Working with secondary schools
We ran a 2 year long “ENTHUSE” partnership with schools that aimed to inspire young people into STEM careers. The ENTHUSE programme empowered teachers to speak confidently about cancer and gave them the tools to encourage students to consider cancer research as an option for their future. Building on this platform of engagement with local teachers, we are developing the next phase of improving cancer education in our region.
“Now that half of us will experience cancer in our lifetime, it’s more important than ever to ensure young people have the knowledge required to understand the disease and catch it early. By engaging teachers in high-quality training, the charity’s ambitious plans will continue to improve the cancer education of thousands of local students.”

Support for Businesses
We are always happy to give presentations at businesses in and around York to discuss the realities of living with cancer and the services available through the charity.
Cancer Champions
We work with the North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance to provide free awareness sessions teaching people about the signs, symptoms and screening programmes for a number of cancers.
